Taking as a starting point the exhibition Everything’s wrong, Xerxes, Playroom further promotes its core belief that contemporary art should be open to people of all ages. Once more, it encouraged families and children to enter the gallery space not only as viewers but furthermore with the aim to develop their critical understanding and their aesthetic references in relation to works of contemporary art and finally create their own artworks through play!

By placing  a focus on specific works by Margarita Bofiliou featured in the exhibition that are used as a reference, it creates three creative activities designed especially for young people. These three activities will investigate the idea of communication which seems to lie beneath the artworks. Automatic writing, the intensely populated imagery, the simple forms and narratives that emerge from the works creates the curiosity to further explore the inner silent voice that comes out of the works and occupies the space. The young creators will leave the gallery space with a sculpture, a sound piece and an abstract collage on hand.

In the beginning, there will be enough time to engage in exercises that will help us start communicating and interacting with each other to form our team of young creators and let ourselves free to speak our own minds.

Playroom is an idea born in 2010, by Ioanna Gouzeli and Aggeliki Bozou, that seeks for educational and at the same time enjoyable ways of connecting children with art. With their beloved play and history of art as guidance their core aim is to create artistic actions and provide children with an artistic experience through play. Playroom participates in the organization of artistic festivals for children, it collaborates with contemporary artists and develops creative activities that enable the young creators to gain a new perception and an amazing experience about art and the world.
