14 February—7:00 pm
Greece is witnessing its first wave of #metoo. We are shocked and emotionally strained, by the daily revelations of gendered abuse and sexual violence in the field of art and culture at large in Greece. Gendered violence permeates and affects the daily lives of womXn and LGBTQIA+ individuals in the country, as a result of the repressive societal systems set up by patriarchy. In the field of culture, it is normalised through processes of aestheticization or “creative methodology” and is embodied in representations of “artistic genius”.
State of Concept firmly believes that we can envision culture beyond sexist behaviour, violence and abuse of power, where subjectivities will create and express themselves without fear or shame, and wishes that #metoo will spread in other professional fields. We invite you to an online discussion organised in collaboration with Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
Dora Chrysikou, actress
Angela Dimitrakaki, writer, art historian
Erifili Giannakopoulou, member of WOM.A, opera singer/director
Despoina Sevasti & Sofia Bempeza, artists and theoreticians
Ioanna Stentoumi, lawyer
The conversation will be introduced by iLiana Fokianaki, artistic director of State of Concept and will be moderated by Maria Louka, journalist.
The event will be live streamed via the facebook page of State of Concept Athens and you can participate with questions.
The event is part of our research programs GOSSIPS and The Bureau of Care, that are considering respectively, the present and future of feminisms, and the politics and ethics of Care (more information on the section Concepts on our webpage www.stateofconcept.org and at firstname.lastname@example.org)
